Shows That Need To Come Back - 02: The A-Team

So, here it is (finally!), part 2 of my Shows That Need To Come Back series, this time, it's The A-Team... Allons-y!

No introduction I write could possibly be better than the opening to The A-Team, so, instead of my drivel, enjoy what is, one of the greatest openings to a TV show...ever!

The A-Team 1983-1987

Before I begin, I realise that bringing the show back, as it was, is a physical impossibility. George Peppard died in 1994 and, the rest of the cast are in their 60's...but, I don't care, it's a minor detail!

The A-Team was an American, action-adventure TV series about four ex US army special forces soldiers. On the run from the military, after being branded war criminals, for a crime they didn't commit, they worked as soldiers of fortune. See, it says so in the opening voice over...

"In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team..."

During most of the team's conflicts, they didn't have many weapons or military equipment. Instead, they fashioned anything they needed from everyday household items. One piece of equipment the team did have, was the iconic, GMC van...

The van often appears in many, 'iconic TV and movie vehicle' lists alongside, the Delorean from Back To The Future and KITT from Knight Rider. It also appears on my list of TV and movie vehicles I will be getting if I win big on the lottery.

Each member of the team had a unique skill set, the show emphasizing using team work in order to overcome obstacles...

The A-Team

John 'Hannibal' Smith - George Peppard

Hannibal is the leader of the A-Team. His tactician abilities are unmatched and, he is a master of disguise. Often, he not only uses disguises on missions, but, also when completing his client screening process. When not in disguise, he is known for his signature look...including, a white trench coat, black leather gloves and smoking a cigar.

He is also known for his catchphrase, "I love it when a plan comes together"

Templeton 'Faceman' Peck - Dirk Benedict

Face is effectively the teams quartermaster, often using his skills to commandeer any equipment they need. He is a master of persuasive arts (fast talker/con-man) and, he can get virtually anything he wants (he could sell ice to an Eskimo). Despite his con-man skills, he is often shown to be a man of great integrity. As was with Hannibal, and other members of the team, Face too has a signature look. Face's signature look is well dressed, often wearing expensive looking suits.

Bosco Albert 'B.A.' (Bad Attitude) Baracas - Mr. T

B.A is the team's muscle and mechanic. He is able to perform amazing feats of strength and, solve any mechanical problem the team have. He has a huge fear of flying, either having to be tricked onto an aircraft, or knocked out. His look (overalls, Mohawk and copious amounts of jewelry) is somewhat iconic, often emulated in TV and film.

He is also known for often telling Murdock he is a "crazy fool".

H.M 'Howling Mad' Murdock - Dwight Schultz

Murdock is the teams pilot. He can fly any aircraft with unparalleled precision. Due to a helicopter crash in Vietnam, he went insane. He lives in the mental wing of a veterans hospital...the team having to break him out when they need a pilot. Murdock is fluent in many languages and, is a talented actor, often helping Face with his cons. His signature look includes his flight jacket and baseball cap.

So there you have it, another addition to my list of shows I'd love to see back on our screens. Sadly, this is not going to happen. I think even a new series, with a fresh cast, is unlikely. Especially when you consider the 2010, Liam Neeson film version was denied a sequel because, it didn't line the executives pockets with enough money.

Did you/do you watch The A-Team? What shows do you want to see back? Leave me your thoughts below.

Thanks for stopping by, I do hope you enjoyed yourself.
