Marvel Legends Spider-Man Infinite Series Superior Spider-Man Action Figure Review

Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can, spins a web, any size, catches thieves just like flies, look out, here comes the Spider-Man...

Sorry! I couldn't help my defense, I have held that in for two Spider-Man related reviews now... Anyway, today, I'm taking a look at the, Marvel Legends Spider-Man Infinite Series Superior Spider-Man... Allons-y!

For those who don't know the story... Doctor Otto Octavius (Doc Ock) is dying. In order to prolong his life, he transplants his mind into the body of Peter Parker, using Parker's powers, he takes up the mantle of, Superior Spider-Man... The Superior Spider-Man comics only ran for about 30 issues. The storyline leading to it was quite controversial in that, in order for Doc Ock to take control of Parker's body, Parker's mind was transferred to Doc Ock's dying/decaying body, effectively killing him.

Now you know a little about the character, let's crack on with the review...

The Sculpt

Yet again, as was the case with both Amazing Spidey 2 and Spider-Girl (minus her wardrobe malfunction), Hasbro have done an amazing job with the sculpt.

The new(?) sculpt on the figure is thinner than previous incarnations, not quite Amazing Spidey 2 thin however, to be fair, that is based on the stick insect that is, Andrew Garfield (big fan, just smidgen jealous that he probably doesn't have to watch what he eats!). As I've mentioned before, previous incarnations have suffered from looking like Dwayne Johnson dressed up as Spidey for Halloween however, this one...this one does not. He has well defined muscles and, he looks like he could hold his own in a fight however, his muscles look lean rather than overly inflated...more yoga-y, less steroid-y.

It may seem like a trivial thing however, the lenses on his mask are sculpted rather than just painted on. This seemingly minor detail makes a substantial difference, adding to the realism of the figure.

The Paintwork

The paintwork on the figure is very good, with only minor quality control issues...such as a little sloppy work on the eyes.

As you can see in the shot above, the webbing on the figure is, well, all over the place. I'll be honest, this played havoc with my OCD, I thought they had done a very, very poor job. This is not the case however! Having looked into the character, it appears, the various artists who illustrated the comics designed the character in such a way. So really, the paint application of the webbing is spot OCD is satisfied!

Articulation on the figure, whilst not quite as good as the Amazing Spidey 2 is brilliant. You can recreate with relative ease, any and all Spidey-esc poses you can think of.

One thing it beats Amazing Spidey's articulation on is the head. The range of movement, especially upwards, is greater than that of Amazing Spidey's. This greater range gives you the ability to create more dynamic aerial poses.

First and foremost, this is another from the 'Ultimate Green Goblin' build a figure line, so, you get a body part. This time it's Goblin's right leg.

As well as the BAF part, the figure comes with two sets of hands. Firstly, you get the obligatory web shooting (thwipping) hands. As well as the thwipping hands, you get a pair of Arthur 'Fonzie' Fonzarelli hands...

... The Fonzie hands, I assume, are web holding hands. No webbing to use with these hands though, which is a shame. You'd think, if they give you hands designed to hold the webbing, they'd give you webbing!

This figure is absolutely fantastic! It has to be said, if it wasn't for the Amazing Spidey 2 figure, it could quite possibly be, the best Spidey figure of recent years...poor Doc Ock, bested by Peter Parker yet again!

Everything about the figure is extremely well executed, it has a brilliant sculpt, great articulation and, good paint application with only minimal errors. It would be a great addition to any action figure collection and, for any Spider-Man fans, it's a must!

So, there you have it, my review of the Marvel Legends Spider-Man Infinite Series Superior Spider-Man action figure...
